Gustav Klimt’s The Kiss has been 3D printed. Its rich colors were reinterpreted as textures. The 3D version of the masterpiece is on display along with the original at the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, Austria. All visitors are welcome to touch the replica in relief, but it’s the blind museum visitors who will most benefit. Sensors within the 3D print trigger audio descriptions when touched.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City also has multi-sensory programs available by request for blind or partially sighted visitors. These programs include a touch collection, verbal imaging tours, and a guided touch tour.
