FDA Talks 3D

The notoriously stubborn FDA has issues guidance around 3D printing’s medical applications.This is a big deal.  Really.

We’ve only recently opened the door to the 3D era and the FDA has already approved 85 different 3D printed medical devices.  Eighty-five as of December 2015.  Given the ever-increasing speed of progress, I’m pretty sure they’ve cleared a few since then.

This isn’t the first time the FDA has so publicly acknowledged the potential of 3D printing.  Back in 2013 Dr. Steven Pollack (seen below left holding the RoboHand) discusses the agency’s enthusiasm for the technology in “FDA Goes 3-D.”
